why doesn't this work?

; ip/ping fd23:a1b9:ad77:dc96::1
sending 32 64 byte messages 1000 ms apart to icmpv6!fd23:a1b9:ad77:dc96::1!1

It looks like for some reason you have to wait for the first
Neighbor Advertisement message to be able to receive Echo Reply
from your own IPv6 address.
